As you (must) already know, this is Slipknot. They are one of the world's worst band's, in my opinion. There's only been one occasion of where I was sure someone liked Slipknot because of their music. I was sure of it because it was a person who was blind, and enjoyed to listen to the so-called "music" of Slipknot.

I feel that Slipknot is liked and famous because of many reasons, one being their music, or what they call "music". What they produce in the studio, I feel is not music. All it basically is, is a loud thump with guitar riffs in the background, accompanied by loud screaming by Corey Taylor. This is not music. It's noise. Not music at all. But to the unsuspecting "Nu-Metal" fan, it's "Hardcore as fuck."

Another major reason of why Slipknot is famous is their gimmicks. They've used so many, that I think I lost count at about 58. As you can already tell, one major gimmick is the way they all look. Jumpsuits, masks, numbers, the works. Not original at all, but I'll explain that later.

As you can see, each member has a "unique" mask covering their face, and matching jumpsuits with minor differences. According to Number 1, aka Joey the drummer, the masks were used because "they were never about their faces". If that was true, then they just wouldn't put on some fucking bandanas over their faces. They say their about their music (which isn't music at all), yet continue to use masks that are "creepy looking."

Don't believe me on the masks? Then why the fuck did Slipknot make such a big deal when they were "revealing new masks" at Ozzfest 2001? Why do they always make a big deal when they have new masks? WHY?

One other gimmick is their pathetic attempt to sound Death Metal. Sorry Corey, but vomiting into the microphone doesn't make your music "hardcore". You also must have a "hardcore" band. I have a couple of "musician" friends who've heard Slipknot, and they all agree; it doesn't take much talent at all to play one of their songs on guitar/bass. I myself am a drummer, and I must say, attempting to play a song by Joey Jorrdison proved to be a little (very little) difficult. But I was able to do it.

But not only are Slipknot using gimmicks, they're stealing them, too! Slipknot are not original at all. The band in the picture to the right are known as Mr. Bungle. They first emerged in the late '80's. Obviously, they used masks. But they did it for a different reason as Slipknot. Slipknot use masks for attention, while Mr. Bungle used 'em to cover up the fact that the band was lead by the musical genius, Mike Patton.

Mike Patton usually always does this with the projects he has created. For a reason that is not known to me, Mike Patton always does this to cover up his identity. If you don't believe that, then just head over to the Brujeria page (Another band Mike is part of) and check out their pictures.

What piss me off about Slipknot isn't that they use gimmicks and sometimes rip 'em off. What pisses me off is that they refuse to say what they actually use the gimmicks for, and refuse to even admit that they use fucking gimmicks. I wish that Slipknot would end up like Vanilla Ice.
